Just got into Virginia…

Before I say anything, “the tail of the dragon” was one of the best roads for a motorcycle I’ve been on, this trip.

Having said that… After I read their web site I was a little leery about taking that road! Their web site makes the road sound horrific, but it’s not. The road is so well maintained, banked, and each turn is very visible. After some of the roads I have been on, this one was a very pleasurable drive. It was so much fun that I did it twice… So now let’s just say 636 turns in 22 miles! :) Now I saw camera guys the first time, and they were all on my left side, where all the battle scars are… The second time through I didn’t see any! I figured that one out pretty quickly, a heavy rain fall rolled in, and I got soaked… Good thing the camera guys didn’t :)…

Now your probably wondering which roads I found crazier… Well California’s high way 1, both of them, are crazy! Both the road and the drivers on them. High way 1 is well enough maintained, and the turns are manageable, usually in second gear! It’s the crazy on coming traffic that had me scared. I’m probably a little biased about that one, because just before entering the first part of high way 1, I was run off the road by a small pick up hauling a much bigger trailer… Don’t worry mom, I’m fine, and I’ll be home very soon :)… The other notable road was high way 3, up and around Kootenay lake in BC. Again that road is well maintained, and the surface is great, but it is way more technical and way twistier than the tail of the dragon.

In all the tail of the dragon is a great ride… But the craziness is controlled by how you control the throttle! People are making a lot of money over the hype they have created about this road. Of course I did pick up a pin, and a couple overly priced shirts… Of course I need those shirts now, since I’m one smelly dude at the moment. I’m so close to the end, I don’t want to waist time and hit another laundry mat… :) I still have some clean undys mom :)…
